Hydrogen-rich saline attenuates anxiety-like behaviors in morphine-withdrawn mice
2017, NeuropharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Corticosterone is responsible for stress and anxiety of the withdrawal period, and morphine withdrawal also has a positive effect on the secretion of cortisol. Consistent with previous report (Kishioka et al., 1996; Wu et al., 2014), naloxone administration and a 2-day spontaneous withdrawal period in morphine-dependent mice significantly elevated plasma corticosterone and cortisol levels. HRS administration before naloxone precipitation significantly attenuated the secretion of corticosterone and cortisol in the plasma of mice, and had no effect on the level of corticosterone and cortisol in the plasma of saline-treated control mice.
Effects of prototypic calcium channel blockers in methadone-maintained humans responding under a naloxone discrimination procedure
2013, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :That neither verapamil nor diltiazem attenuated the behavioral effects of naloxone was unexpected. These results are inconsistent with prior findings with diltiazem (Kishioka et al., 1996; Tokuyama and Ho, 1996) and verapamil (Blackburn-Munro et al., 2000) in nonhumans and our prior finding with isradipine in this paradigm (Oliveto et al., 2004). These findings do not appear to be due to recruiting a different opioid dependent population than accessed in our prior studies (Oliveto et al., 2003a, 2002, 1998b), in that the self-reported effects of naloxone appear to be similar to those reported previously (Oliveto et al., 2004, 2002, 1998b).
The effect of nimodipine on memory impairment during spontaneous morphine withdrawal in mice: Corticosterone interaction
2012, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, their antagonists can alleviate symptoms of morphine withdrawal (Ramkumar and el-Fakahany, 1988). Corticosterone concentration in brain increases over morphine and morphine withdrawal (Mulholland et al., 2005), Calcium channel blockers have been shown to have positive effect in spontaneous morphine withdrawal syndrome (Kishioka et al., 1996). Central and peripheral mechanism has been thought to inhibit the morphine abstinence signs (Bongianni et al., 1986).
