Similarly, in Mpumalanga, species diversity of grassland birds was significantly reduced where grasslands were converted to commercial plantations, whereas woodland birds benefited from this change (Allan et al., 1997). Although these studies dealt with plantations, comparable shifts in avian assemblages may be expected where habitats are altered through alien tree invasions (Richardson and Van Wilgen, 2004).
