    As stated earlier, glucocorticoids are crucial factors in shaping brain development [57]. Although cross-talk between glucocorticoids and vitamin D signaling has long been recognized (for review see [58]) this has yet to be fully investigated in the brain. Obradovic and colleagues have found the addition of 1,25(OH)2D3 to embryonic hippocampal cells completely antagonized the inhibitory effects of dexamethasone on cellular differentiation, and directly interfered with glucocorticoid receptor function [59].
