Abstract

This chapter describes the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) approach to teaching language to learners with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Aligned with B.F. Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior, lessons in CARD’s Language curriculum target both speaker behavior (echoics, mands, tacts, and intraverbals) and listener behavior (matching, receptive identification, and following instructions).
