Enhancement of biomass, lipids, and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) production in Nannochloropsis oceanica with a combination of single wavelength light emitting diodes (LEDs) and low temperature in a three-phase culture system
2018, Bioresource TechnologyCitation Excerpt :Sufficient CO2 supply via aeration leads to improved cell biomass production in microalgae culture (Mirón et al., 2000). This result is consistent with that of Fábregas et al. (1994), who reported that cell biomass production was significantly increased in Dunaliella tertiolecta by increasing the aeration rate. The cell biomass of Scenedesmus quadricauda increased from 0.23 to 0.38 g L−1 when the aeration rate was increased from 0.11 to 0.33 vvm (Thanh et al., 2016).
Algal products beyond lipids: Comprehensive characterization of different products in direct saponification of green alga Chlorella sp.
2015, Algal ResearchCitation Excerpt :% (with factor 6.25) showing that this solvent extraction increases the protein content in the residue and is quite selective towards lipids. Protein content in Chlorella sp. [43] is relatively high compared to other algal species, such as Chaetoceros muelleri [20] or Thalassiosira pseudonana [20,45,46] (see Table 3). It should, however, be pointed out here, that saponification process applies hexane and sulphuric acid as reagents, which are not suitable for food applications.
Energetic optimization of algal lipid production in bubble columns: Part 1: Evaluation of gas sparging
2012, Biomass and BioenergyCitation Excerpt :A few studies have addressed the relationship between Q/V ratio and growth. Fabregas et al. [27] tested Dunaliella tertiolecta with Q/V ratios up to 6.51 min−1 and found increase of growth rate with increased airflow rate, with no significant inhibition at the higher flow rates; however, they did not find an optimum ratio based on growth alone. Hulatt & Thomas [10] had tested D. tertiolecta and Chlorella vulgaris at Q/V ratios of 0.034, 0.069, and 0.172 min−1, and found growth rates of 0.07 and 0.10 g L−1 d−1, for the two species respectively, at Q/V of 0.172 min−1.
