Abstract

The 209Bi(t, p)211Bi reaction has been studied at 17 MeV bombarding energy with 11 keV energy resolution. The reaction protons were momentum analyzed in a Q3D spectrometer and detected with a helix detector system. An identical experiment was also carried out on a 208Pb target; both nuclei being examined over an excitation energy range of 0–2.1 MeV. The levels of 210Pb excited in this reaction are considered to be pairing multipole vibrations and the 211Bi results are analyzed in terms of a proton coupled to these multipoles.
