Abstract

Certain particle mechanics actions can be interpreted as Wess-Zumino terms. Two new examples are the non-relativistic spin-12 particle and the relativistic (1 + 1)-dimensional massive superparticle. We show that their actions can be derived systematically from the non-linear realisation of the super-galilean and super-Poincaré groups, respectively, by taking into account the central charge in the algebra. In both cases the action is the lowest component of a Goldstone superfield conjugate to the central charge.

Non-relativistic strings (NR) in flat transverse space with a non-trivial spectrum were introduced in [1,2], in the static gauge they become free theories [3]. The actions of NR strings and branes can be constructed as Wess–Zumino terms [4] of the underlying Galilei groups using the method of non-linear realizations for space–time groups [5,6]. NR superstring theories in flat transverse space were recently analyzed in [7].
