Abstract

Lattice formulations of matrix spin models defined on Grassmann manifolds are studied both by mean field theory and Monte Carlo simulation in two, three, four and six dimensions. Most of these models have first-order phase transitions in more than two dimensions. There appear to be no low-order transitions in the two-dimensional RPN−1 and CPN−1 models when N = 2 or 3. None of these models possesses a phase with massless gauge bosons.
