2007, Biological PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :The FGF-2 is one of the major growth factors that stimulate the proliferation of embryonic neural stem cells in culture (Ghosh and Greenberg 1995; Vicario-Abejon et al. 1995). The FGF-2 and FGFR1 are expressed in the hippocampus (Gonzalez et al. 1995; Matsuo et al. 1994). To determine the role of FGF-2/FGFR1 signaling in adult neurogenesis in vivo, we have generated Fgfr1 conditional knockout (Fgfr1Co) mice with the Cre/loxP system (Xu et al. 2002).
