Abstract

The Hoffmann boundary conditions at the interface between two different ferromagnetic materials are reconsidered from the point of view of their applicability in the full coupling limit. The conditions under which they are valid in their original form are discussed.

Theory of propagation of nonlinear spin wave through an antiferromagnetic magnonic crystal with four-sublattice interfaces

The purpose of the research is constructing an analytical model of a nonlinear spin wave propagating through a single antiferromagnet/antiferromagnet boundary as well as in one-dimensional antiferromagnetic magnonic crystal comprised of two sorts of antiferromagnets (AFM). Both AFMs that comprise the magnonic crystal are assumed to be two-sublattice uniaxial ones. The Landau-Lifshitz equations have been used in the sigma model with account for the exchange bias between magnetic sublattices of both AFMs, the magnetic anisotropy, the magnetic dipole–dipole interaction and the Dzyaloshynskyi-Moriya interaction. As a result, the allowed discrete sets of frequencies and velocities for the considered spin wave are obtained. In the process of investigation, the boundary conditions for the Néel vector on the interface between two AFMs are derived with the exchange bias between magnetic sublattices of both AFMs taken into account. These boundary conditions are, in particular, applied for both fully uncompensated interface and fully compensated one for the illustration purposes. Analysis of the results show that the considered wave is reflectionless (thus, energy losses on reflection on the interfaces are absent), phase-coherent and possess a number of parameters that can be considered as degrees of freedom for encoding information. These findings open up new possibilities of digital data processing utilizing nonlinear spin waves propagating through antiferromagnetic magnonic crystal.
Exchange spin waves transmission through the interface between two antiferromagnetically coupled ferromagnetic media

With increasing demand for miniaturization in computational and communication technologies, the ability to control spin wave amplitude and phase attract considerable attention, due to prospect of magnonics for valuable decrease of consumed energy with increased functionality of devices. In our paper we theoretically investigate spin wave propagation in the system of two antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic media separated with an ultrathin nonmagnetic interface layer. We propose to use this specially designed interface to perform control over the phase and the intensity of the transmitted spin waves. Our results show, that the interface with varying exchange coupling parameter can be treated as a metasurface, which can offer a change of the spin wave phase between transmitted and incident waves in the range from $- π / 2$ to $π / 2$ . In particular we show, that a positive shift correlates with the lower and the negative phase shift with higher transmittance. Moreover, we show that the phase shift can be controlled by the external magnetic field.
Broadband stripline ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy of ferromagnetic films, multilayers and nanostructures

This paper presents a comprehensive critical overview of fundamental and practical aspects of the modern stripline broadband ferromagnetic resonance (BFMR) spectroscopy largely employed for the characterisation of magnetic low-dimensional systems, such as thin ferro- and ferromagnetic, multiferroic and half-metallic films, multi-layers and nanostructures. These planar materials form the platform of the nascent fields of magnonics and spintronics. Experimental and theoretical results of research on these materials are summarised, along with systematic description of various phenomena associated with the peculiarities of the stripline BFMR, such as the geometry of stripline transducers, the orientation of the static magnetic field, the presence of microwave eddy currents, and the impacts of non-magnetic layers, interfaces and surfaces in the samples. Results from 240 articles, textbooks and technical reports are presented and many practical examples are discussed in detail. This review will be of interest to both general physical audience and specialists conducting research on various aspects of magnetisation dynamics and nanomagnetism.
Magnetization dynamics in thin films and multilayers

The behavior of spin waves is influenced by essentially all the parameters which characterize a magnetic material – exchange interactions, anisotropy, surface effects, dipolar interactions, phase transitions and imperfections. Thus measurements of spin wave frequencies can give important information on characterizing different magnetic materials and structures. In this paper we outline the major results and calculational methods for long-wavelength spin waves in thin films and multilayers. While the primary attention is on ferromagnet-based structures, long-wavelength spin waves in antiferromagnets are also discussed. We indicate how particular measurements of spin wave frequencies can be used to extract the fundamental parameters of the different structures.
