2020, Carbohydrate PolymersCitation Excerpt :In a hemostasis procedure that calcium alginate powder was firstly applied to the hemorrhaging area, followed by photocrosslinkable chitosan hydrogel, Hattori et al. found that very few macrophages around the composite hemostat, and that chitosan hydrogel and calcium alginate visually disappeared in respectively 3 and 28 days in the hemostasis area after hemostasis (Hattori et al., 2010). Chitosan can be biodegraded by lysozyme and chitotriosildase (Muzzarelli, 1993; Nishimura, Ishihara, Ukei, Tokura, & Azuma, 1986) secreted from neutrophils. Besides, their end chemicals from degradation have non-cytotoxicity to human body (Lim et al., 2008; Shi et al., 2016).
