Innovating resilience promotion: Integrating cultural practices, social ecologies and development-sensitive conceptual strategies for advancing child well-being
2019, Advances in Child Development and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :At the same time and noted (see Fisher et al., 1993), other communities of children—usually non-minority status individuals—enjoy unapologetic benefits such as “individual-context best-fit” situations. Such highly comfortable or dissonance-lacking social ecologies contribute to the probability of unimpeded or less-complex identity processes and most certainly precipitate less need for adaptations to adversity (see Fisher et al., 1993; Luthar, 2013; Spencer et al., 1985). Of course, the latter may have implications for unpreparedness for a potential future “downside of privilege” given that human vulnerability requires skillful coping with planned and unexpected challenge.
