Abstract

The problem of solving time dependent and independent partial differential equations on multiprocessors is addressed. It is shown how one can decompose the partial differential equation so as to minimize the communication between processors as well as to maximize the computational tasks of the processors. The partitioning process can be static or dynamic and depends on the properties of the problem. Examples are given. Computer systems need to be able to handle both types of partitionings.
