NADPH oxidase activation regulates apoptotic neutrophil clearance by murine macrophages
2018, BloodCitation Excerpt :However, the specific receptors and downstream signals triggering NADPH oxidase activation during macrophage efferocytosis are uncharacterized. CR3 (CD11b/CD18) is a promiscuous receptor that binds to many ligands,45 including iC3b-opsonized ACs,46,47 and is known to strongly activate the oxidative burst in neutrophils.48 The hyaluronan-binding receptor CD44 is also implicated in macrophage NADPH oxidase activation.49
Complement and phagocytes - A complicated interaction
2015, Molecular ImmunologyBlockage of CR1 prevents activation of rodent microglia
2013, Neurobiology of DiseaseCitation Excerpt :Treating microglia with CR1 blocking antibody before the addition of LPS or Aβ1–42 resulted in decreased intracellular O2− production (Fig. 5). Binding of C3b to CR1 was previously found to stimulate a respiratory burst leading to the production of O2− (Hoogerwerf et al., 1990). Therefore the reduced O2− production we observed may be influenced by the lower availability of CR1 present to bind any C3b.
