This article explores organizational applications of videotex under different network configurations using a case study methodology were selected on the basis of (a) their successful implementation of organizational videotex, (b) the specific network configuration in use, and (c) their business mission. Three objectives of the research were to: (a) identify the range of organizational applications of videotex, specifically those appropriate for videotex networks that are internal, interorganizational, or national (including the home consumer) in scope; (b) highlight the organizational, technological, and social factors that appeared to influence the success of system implementation; and (c) explore the effects of videotex use on the selected organizations.
