Effects of Class II-Selective Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor on Neuromuscular Function and Disease Progression in SOD1-ALS Mice
2018, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :To corroborate these findings, we also analyzed transcript levels of a set of genes (Fig. 5B) regulating myogenesis and muscle regeneration upon denervation including HDAC4. Among them, we found increased expression of genes such as myosin heavy chain 1 (MYH1) (t(25), p ≤ 0.05), glucose transporter 4 (Glut4) (t(20), p ≤ 0.05) and striated muscle activator of Rho signaling (STARS) (t(23), p ≤ 0.05) (Fig. 5B) that are known to improve skeletal muscle function and maintain its homeostasis (John et al., 1977; Moreno et al., 2003; Lamon et al., 2014). Of note, the effects of MC1568 on mir206, FGFBP1, MYH1, Glut4 and STARS levels vanished after additional 15 days of treatment (Fig. 5C, D), in good agreement with data on disease development and muscle electrical activity.
