Role of Basolateral Amygdalar Somatostatin 2 Receptors in a Rat Model of Chronic Anxiety
2021, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Social interaction (SI) test. The SI test is a fully validated test of experimental anxiety-like behavior in rats (Sanders and Shekhar, 1995; Shekhar and Katner, 1995) that is sensitive to FDA approved treatments for anxiety disorder symptom management that include benzodiazepines (Johnson et al., 2010) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Lightowler et al., 1994). The SI test was performed as previously described (Lungwitz et al., 2014).
Orexin/hypocretin receptor modulation of anxiolytic and antidepressive responses during social stress and decision-making: Potential for therapy
2020, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :These known anxiolytic, antidepressant, or anxiogenic drugs (NPS, antalarmin, yohimbine), provide some predictive validation for the relationship between the uniquely SAM behavioral measures and anxiety or depression (Carpenter and Summers, 2009; Robertson et al., 2015; Smith et al., 2014; Smith et al., 2016; Summers et al., 2017). An additional test, Social Interaction testing (including the SIP), that we often use along with the SAM has been validated against drugs commonly used therapeutically for anxiety (benzodiazepines) and depression (SSRIs) (File, 1980; Johnson et al., 2010; Lightowler et al., 1994; Molosh et al., 2018; Sanders and Shekhar, 1995). In addition, site-dependent positive and negative in vivo markers of depression such as BDNF, also are suggestive of a predictive validity for social defeat models, such as the SAM (Berton et al., 2007; Smith et al., 2014).
Adversity in early adolescence promotes an enduring anxious phenotype and increases serotonergic innervation of the infralimbic medial prefrontal cortex
2017, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :More studies are needed to fully understand the impact of stress during early adolescence on the 5-HT system and its related behaviours in female brain (Booij et al., 2015). The 5-HT system is linked to social behaviour in male and female rodents, as investigated using the resident-intruder paradigm, in males (Holmes et al., 2002), maternal aggression, in females (Ferreria et al., 2000), and social interaction tests, in both sexes (Lightowler et al., 1994; Starr et al., 2007). The social interaction (SI) test provides an ethologically valid means to assess anxiety-related social behaviour.
Pharmacological depletion of serotonin in the basolateral amygdala complex reduces anxiety and disrupts fear conditioning
2015, Pharmacology Biochemistry and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :The behavior of each rat in the open-field arena was recorded on video and scored afterwards using Anymaze Software (Stoelting, Woods Dale, IL, USA). Anxiety-like behavior was measured utilizing the SI test (File, 1980) that was further modified and validated measure of anxiety-associated behaviors (Sanders and Shekhar, 1995) and is sensitive to current pharmacological treatments for anxiety disorders [acute benzodiazepine (Johnson et al., 2010) and chronic selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) treatments (Lightowler et al., 1994)]. The apparatus consists of a solid wooden box with an open roof approximately 0.9 m long × 0.9 m wide with walls 0.3 m high.
