Abstract

The friction and wear behavior of short-fiber-reinforced composites has been investigated using tribomechanical testing and microscopy. The observed wear rate vs. normal load data have been explained by means of a wear equation derived from the concepts of crack propagation and classical mechanics. A new interpretation of friction has been provided from the energy balance approach.
