2022, Chemical Engineering JournalCitation Excerpt :A well-defined thermal degradation occurs for all families of ANP–BEGs in the temperature range of 300–400 ∘C (Figs. S13−S20). As the homolytic cleavages of either the CO and CC bonds or polymer backbone in the polyethylene glycol yield aldehydes, ketones, and ethers in the process of pyrolysis over the broad temperature range of 200 to 400 ∘C [29–31], the significant degradation is likely due to the thermal decomposition of branched polyethylene glycol linkers. Furthermore, anionic tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate has been found to decompose into tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane upon heating [32] so that, in our study, we postulate that tris(tetrafluorophenyl)borane remained after thermal decomposition of ANP–BEGs.

The fraction of the binder that does not volatilize ends up being decomposed, generating polyene, which is eliminated in an exothermic event at II (522.0 °C) [21–26]. At III (858.7 °C), another exothermic event is observed, which corresponds to the phase transformation of the titania, from anatase to rutile (TA → TR).
