Abstract

Synthesis of canniprene (9), the major C-prenylated dihydrostilbene of cannabis, is reported. Two new geranylated (15) and prenylated (16) relatives of chrysoeriol have been isolated from Thailand-strain cannabis.

The database search initially returned 308 abstracts and two further records were identified through the additional measures described. Forty-three full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, with 26 articles [9–12,15–19,22,27–42] included for qualitative synthesis (Fig. 2). All studies were in pre-clinical settings.

The structure of ciliatin B as 110 was unequivocally established by its hemisynthesis from 111; refluxing this latter compound in the mixture of HCl and MeOH readily gave 110 after the workup. Compound 106 has been reported under other names, for example, 6-prenylchrysoeriol [80] canniflavone [81], as well as cannflavin B [82]. No di-prenylated flavone has so far been identified from this genus.
