Single intravenous and oral pharmacokinetics of danofloxacin in the goat
2021, Small Ruminant ResearchCitation Excerpt :Despite widespread concern regarding development of resistance to fluoroquinolones, this class of drugs is extensively used for antibacterial prevention and treatment, largely due to their broad spectrum of activity (Hannan et al., 1997; Walker, 2000; Martinez et al., 2006). Indeed, danofloxacin’s antimicrobial activity includes most gram-negative and some gram-positive bacteria, and Mycoplasma spp. (Grimshaw et al., 1990; McGuirk et al., 1992; Cooper et al., 1993). Goats are primarily farmed for meat and milk production, and worldwide their numbers are estimated at over one billion head and rising (Toutain et al., 2010; FAO, 2020).
Antimicrobial minimum inhibitory concentration of Mycoplasma gallisepticum: a systematic review
2021, Journal of Applied Poultry ResearchCitation Excerpt :The main exclusion reason among studies selected for full-text assessment was the lack of consistency between broth microdilution MIC protocols that were used in the studies and the standard protocol. These include differences in viable counting methods (Jordan and Horrocks, 1996; Jordan et al., 1998; Zanella et al., 1998; Wang et al., 2001; Reinhardt et al., 2005; Forrester et al., 2011; Chen et al., 2015; Din et al., 2017), inoculum size (Cooper et al., 1993; Jordan and Horrocks, 1996; Jordan et al., 1998; Ammar et al., 2016), and the absence of an initial MIC value (Zanella et al., 1998; Pakpinyo and Sasipreeyajan, 2007; Din et al., 2017). For certain antibiotics and reference strains, different MIC was observed.
Danofloxacin pharmacokinetics and tissue residues in Bilgorajska geese
2021, Research in Veterinary ScienceCitation Excerpt :The dose was chosen based on the recommended therapeutic regimen for the treatment of respiratory diseases in poultry (Charleston et al., 1998; Zhang et al., 2017). At this dose, danofloxacin showed activity against Mycoplasma species, such as M. gallisepticum, a common pathogen which can cause a chronic respiratory disease in poultry, affecting growth rate and egg production (Cooper et al., 1993; Zhang et al., 2017). In the current study, danofloxacin in geese showed a higher Cmax and a lower Tmax than those reported in chickens and ducks (Knoll et al., 1999; Goudah and Mouneir, 2009; Zeng et al., 2010).
In vitro pharmacodynamics of gamithromycin against Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides Small Colony
2013, Veterinary JournalCitation Excerpt :Despite this, epidemiological models have predicted that vaccination campaigns alone are unlikely to result in disease eradication and treatment with antimicrobials should be evaluated (Mariner et al., 2006). Macrolides are one of three major antimicrobial classes that are effective against mycoplasmas, the others being tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (Cooper et al., 1993). Gamithromycin is a new macrolide that was developed for the treatment and prevention of bovine respiratory disease and has been shown to possess both bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against Mannheimia haemolytica (Huang et al., 2010).
Randomized masked controlled clinical trial to compare 7-day and 14-day course length of doxycycline in the treatment of Mycoplasma felis infection in shelter cats
2013, Comparative Immunology, Microbiology and Infectious DiseasesCitation Excerpt :Whether acting as a primary pathogen or secondary opportunistic invader, Mycoplasma spp. is an important infectious agent in feline URTD. Mycoplasma are susceptible to fluoroquinolones and tetracyclines in vitro and in vivo [14,17,18]. The tetracyclines (tetracycline, oxytetracycline, minocycline, and doxycycline) are bacteriostatic antibiotics that interfere with bacterial protein synthesis.
