Comparison of breakdown-voltage of contemporary and veteran photovoltaic backsheets
2019, Solar EnergyCitation Excerpt :The mechanical damage from hydrolysis and photodegradation including: cracks, spalling, and void formation (McMahon et al., 1959; Day and Wiles, 1972c; Wang et al., 1998) could all contribute to thermally induced electric breakdown. The preferential etching of amorphous regions of PET (Miyagi and Wunderlich, 1972; Pecorini and Hertzberg, 1993) implies that voids may be formed throughout the thickness of PET. Table 1 summarizes the contemporary backsheet specimens examined in this study, a subset of the materials from the backsheet screen test study in Ref. (Kempe et al., 2017).
Tensile failure of polyester fibers
2018, Handbook of Properties of Textile and Technical FibresIn depth analysis of micro-mechanism of mechanical property alternations in PLA/EVA/clay nanocomposites: A combined theoretical and experimental approach
2015, Materials and DesignCitation Excerpt :Mechanical properties of polymeric materials particularly tensile modulus and impact strength are affected to a large extent by degree of crystallinity. Generally, an increase in degree of crystallinity results in a reduction of impact strength due to crystals acting as stress concentrators and reducing multiple crazing and shear yielding mechanisms of impact toughening [47]. However, some enhancement of impact strength has also been reported for specimens having small and imperfect crystallites [48].
Effect of water conditioning on the fracture behavior of PA12 composites processed by selective laser sintering
2011, Materials Science and Engineering: ACitation Excerpt :In all samples, the degree of crystallization Xc and the crystallization temperature Tc are higher after water conditioning the materials, indicating that there has been noticeable degradation of the matrix by molecule hydrolyzation [22]. Both, decreasing the molecular weight and increasing the degree of crystallinity, reduced the fracture toughness in resins due to the reduction of the tie molecules density which act as crystals connectors [26]. Particularly, it has been found that nylons present a ductile/brittle transition with increasing crystallinity.
