DMSP observations of high latitude Poynting flux during magnetic storms
2017, Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial PhysicsCitation Excerpt :There are occasional mismatches between the CRBs and the particle boundaries, usually when IMF or solar wind conditions are changing rapidly, leading to boundary motion. We suggest that the CRBs which are related to electric fields react more rapidly, on timescales comparable to the Alfven travel time, to changes in solar wind electric field (Etemadi et al., 1988; Todd et al., 1988), and particle boundaries react more slowly to reconfigurations in the boundaries (Gorney and Evans, 1987). It is challenging to quantify this hypothesis, given the speed with which DMSP moves across the boundaries.
