Tonal noise reduction of an electric ducted fan using over-the-rotor acoustic treatment
2023, Applied AcousticsStructure design of low-frequency broadband sound-absorbing volute for a multi-blade centrifugal fan
2020, Applied AcousticsCitation Excerpt :If the designed fan does not meet the requirements of acoustic index, additional noise reduction measures shall be taken. Due to the strong unsteady interaction between the inhomogeneous flow at the exit of rotating impeller blades and the volute tongue, the acoustic quarter-wavelength resonator or Helmholtz-type resonator located at the cut-off of the scroll or volute tongue can effectively reduce the aerodynamic tonal noise appearing at blade passing frequencies [24–26]. The mouth of the resonator was constructed from a series of perforated plates with the same curvature as the cut-off to preserve the original geometry of the casing.
Tonal noise prediction in a small high speed centrifugal fan and experimental validation
2017, Applied AcousticsCitation Excerpt :A very comprehensive review summarising all the research work done from 1960 to 1975 in the effort to reduce tonal noise from centrifugal fan was presented by Neise [3]. Neise and Koopmann [14,15] then experimentally studied a noise reduction method for centrifugal fan using acoustics resonator. Dong et al. [16] used particle image velocimetry (PIV), surface pressure and noise measurement to study the effects of modifying the cut-off tongue and impeller geometries on the flow structure, local pressure fluctuation and noise.
Passive control of centrifugal fan noise by employing open-cell metal foam
2016, Applied AcousticsCitation Excerpt :In addition to the above-mentioned methods for controlling noise source, some sound cancellation methods were proposed as well. Neise and Koopmann [29] developed an acoustic resonator in the volute tongue to reduce the tonal noise of a centrifugal fan. After that, Koopmann and Fox [30] and Neise and Koopmann [31] employed active sources to cancel the components at the blade passing frequency and its harmonics.
Suppression of tonal noise in a centrifugal fan using guide vanes
2015, Journal of Sound and VibrationCitation Excerpt :One of the comprehensive reviews is given by Neise which summarized all the efforts on improving the geometry of the impeller and its volute cut-off to reduce tonal noise in centrifugal fan [5]. Neise and Koopmann experimentally investigated a method by which an acoustic resonator can be used to reduce the aerodynamic noise generated by turbomachinery [6]. Choi focused on identifying the aspects of fluid dynamics that are associated with noise generations in centrifugal turbomachinery [7].
