Numerical investigation on the effect of porosity distribution on the flame characteristics
2023, International Communications in Heat and Mass TransferExperimental and numerical analysis of void structure in random packed beds of spheres
2021, Powder TechnologyCitation Excerpt :There are some models trying to describe the radial porosity distribution of sphere packings [46]. These comprise exponential decay functions [47–52], which ignore the oscillation close to the wall, damped oscillation functions with an exponentially damped cosine oscillation [8,10,22,53,54] or a Bessel function of zero order [28,55,56], approaches incorporating λ-specific adaptions [28,43,45], and mathematical sphere center re-estimations derived from experimentally obtained radial porosity profiles with subsequent re-calculation of the radial porosity distribution [57–61]. In Fig. 2, selected correlations are plotted along with literature data for tube-to-particle diameter ratios around 4.
Computational insights on intensification of hydrodenitrogenation in a trickle bed reactor using periodic flow modulation
2020, Chemical Engineering and Processing - Process IntensificationCitation Excerpt :The resulting porosity profile generated is illustrated in Fig. S1 of the supplementary material. This correlation [53] defines an oscillatory porosity profile inside the domain which is highest at the wall and lowest at the centre. Contextually, a variable porosity was implemented by defining a particular value of bed porosity (η) at each and every grid cell of the geometry, and was employed in solving the aforementioned flow governing and transport equations.
Alternative method to study the radial dispersion in liquid chromatography columns. Part II: Experimental
2020, Journal of Chromatography ACitation Excerpt :As an additional check of the accuracy of the reported measurements, the value of the effective diffusion coefficient Deff measured has been added to the Drad-graphs (horizontal blue lines). Theoretically, Drad should approach Deff for velocities going to zero [1,11–14,22–43,44,45], which is indeed the case for our experiments. The value of Deff was measured experimentally by performing peak parking experiments (see Section 2.4) using the same mobile phase compositions and under the same temperature condition (i.e., the column is not inserted in the column oven but the temperature of the laboratory is controlled at a constant temperature of 23 °C).
