A novel approach for treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion: Miniplates-based skeletal anchorage
2018, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial OrthopedicsClass II treatment with functional appliances: A meta-analysis of short-term treatment effects
2014, Seminars in OrthodonticsCitation Excerpt :Some authors have reported increased mandibular length6–10 and changes in amount of condylar growth11–14 while others believe the altering mandibular growth cannot be achieved.15–17 It has also been stated that most corrections are due to dentoalveolar changes with small, but statistically significant amount of skeletal effects.18,19 Controversies concerning the effects on the maxilla also exist.
Treatment effectiveness of Fränkel function regulator on the Class III malocclusion: A systematic review and meta-analysis
2014, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial OrthopedicsCitation Excerpt :Subsequently, 13 studies were excluded for specialized reasons. Finally, 7 studies9,12-14,22-24 were included in the qualitative synthesis, 6 were included in the meta-analysis, and 1 study23 was described (Fig 1). All 7 included studies were cohort studies, and all participants in the treatment group wore the FR-3 appliance for at least a year during their growth and development periods.
Early treatment of a Class II Division 1 retruded mandible: Long-term stability
2012, Journal of the World Federation of OrthodontistsCitation Excerpt :It was believed they stimulate and enhance mandibular growth while headgears retard maxillary growth. Subsequent research has not substantiated such claims and there is still no consensus on the long-term effect of mandibular response to functional appliances, nor has there been consensus whether changes were skeletal or dentoalveolar [3–6]. Studies have shown that functional appliances do not target the mandible only with no effects on the maxilla and vice versa for headgears [7].
