Opportunities for Patient-centered Outcomes Research in Radiology
2016, Academic RadiologyCitation Excerpt :Further work is needed on developing strategies for communicating risks/benefits of imaging to patients and caregivers. Viable avenues for disseminating tools to help educate patients include patient advocacy groups coordinated through the ACR and other regional radiology organizations (43). A number of barriers exist to the dissemination and implementation of PCOR, including difficulty in publishing this type of research.
Clustered microcalcifications of intermediate concern detected on digital mammography: Ultrasound assessment
2011, BreastCitation Excerpt :Above all, our results showed that the frequency of targeted-US demonstration of anechoic cysts and/or dilated ducts in the suspected areas was significantly higher in patients with benign lesions than those with malignant lesions and only 7.1%[5/70] cases with anechoic ducts or cysts were proven to be breast cancer. With increasing concern in shared decision-making as it relates to screening tests,14,15 this information can be communicated to patients so that they are better informed about their own individual risks when contemplating the decision to undergo breast biopsy.8,9,21,22 Although there were no other abnormalities on digital mammography except for clustered microcalcifications, targeted-US revealed additional findings of dilated ducts with echogenic content in 13 (9.1%) and hypoechoic nodules in 26 (18.3%) of the 142 patients in the present study.
