Pre-treatment technologies for dark fermentative hydrogen production: Current advances and future directions
2018, Waste ManagementCitation Excerpt :Acetylene is considered a cheap compound for inoculum pre-treatment and there are promising results on methanogenic inhibition and improving H2 yields after using it. Zhao et al. (2009) used acetylene as an inhibitor for CH4 production in landfills. Valdez-Vazquez et al. (2005) found out acetylene 1% (V/V) has an inhibitory effect on methanogens which was comparable to inhibition by BES.
Durability of organobentonite-amended liner for decelerating chloroform transport
2016, ChemosphereCitation Excerpt :Biodegradation of disposed wastes emits a large amount of potentially explosive methane to the atmosphere (Kjeldsen and Fischer, 1995; Abushammala et al., 2013; Di Trapani et al., 2013; USEPA, 2014). Chloroform is added to landfill to suppress the methanogenesis activity (Zhao et al., 2009). However, chloroform may transport to groundwater causing secondary pollution (Jimenez et al., 2002).
Effects of pre-treatment technologies on dark fermentative biohydrogen production: A review
2015, Journal of Environmental ManagementCitation Excerpt :The principle behind chloroform addition is similar to that of BES/BESA. Chloroform limits the functioning ability of corrinoid enzymes and hinders the reduction of methyl-CoM to CH4 by suppressing MCR (Gunsalus and Wolfe, 1978; Oremland and Capone, 1988; Chidthaisong and Conrad, 2000; Zhao et al., 2009b; Hu and Chen, 2007). Corrinoids, present in methanogens, assist in the catalysis of methylation of CoM into methyl-CoM for subsequent reduction into CH4 by MCR (Krzycki and Zeikus, 1980; Cao and Krzycki, 1991; Ferguson et al., 2000).
Multivariate regression analysis of lithogeochemical data to model subsurface mineralization: A case study from the Sari Gunay epithermal gold deposit, NW Iran
2015, Journal of Geochemical ExplorationCitation Excerpt :The RSR model, due to its nature, has been widely used in the earth sciences in comparison to the other multivariate regression models. The function obtained from RSR has been used to model the behavior of a dependent variable with respect to independent variables to find the optimal situation of influencing variables by certain parameters in the environmental sciences (Zhao et al., 2009), soil science (Boylu, 2011), forestry (Zhang et al., 2012), manufacturing technology (Mathivanan and Parthasarathy, 2009) and marine science (Mohanty et al., 2012). The Sari Gunay epithermal gold deposit is located 60 km northwest of Hamadan city in northwest Iran (Fig. 1-A).
