Risk Factors for Endogenous Endophthalmitis in Hospitalized Patients with Candida Fungemia
2021, Ophthalmology RetinaCitation Excerpt :Given the high prevalence and severity of intensive care unit–associated candidemia, a lower threshold and increased impetus may exist for treating fungemia empirically, even before the culture results are available, thus reducing any delay in treatment. Studies show that 33% to 55% of intensive care unit patients have candidemia, with a mortality rate of 5% to 71%.38 One third, or 34.0%, of presumed Candida EE cases occurred in the spring season (April, May, and June).
