Death Receptor 3 regulates distinct pathological attributes of acute versus chronic murine allergic lung inflammation
2017, Cellular ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :Similarly, TL1A was found to co-stimulate type 2 innate lymphocyte (ILC2) expansion and promote IL13 production in a papain allergen model of acute lung inflammation [3,4]. However asthma, due to its chronic nature, is typified by airway remodelling as well as airway inflammation [31,32]. To discern the differential effects of DR3 in an acute versus a more physiologically relevant chronic model of allergic lung inflammation, DR3ko mice were subjected to repeated allergen inhalation challenges, allowing both airway infiltrating cells and pathology to be examined.
Residual oil fly ash worsens pulmonary hyperreactivity in chronic allergic mice
2011, Respiratory Physiology and NeurobiologyCitation Excerpt :We found that ovalbumin increased pulmonary resistances, as expressed by Rinit (central), Rdiff (peripheral) and Rtot (central and peripheral), and elastance (Fig. 1), as previously reported (Xisto et al., 2005). Other authors also found increased total pulmonary resistance using different methods (Hessel et al., 1995; Wagers et al., 2002). It is accepted that both central and peripheral airways are inflamed, as well as lung tissue (Bousquet et al., 2000).
Establishing the phenotype in novel acute and chronic murine models of allergic asthma
2008, International ImmunopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Guinea-pig models of asthma can provide the essential hallmarks of asthma, including dual bronchoconstrictor responses (EAR and LAR) [15---18]. However, asthma models in mice are potentially more useful due to the fact that their immune system has been extensively characterised, genetically modified animals (knockout, transgenic and immunodeficient mice) are available and a wide range of species-specific reagents can be obtained [9,19]. Different protocols have been employed for induction of allergic asthma in mice, and can be differentially classified into acute or chronic models depending on the number of exposures to the allergen.
Role of the tachykinin NK<inf>1</inf> receptor in mediating contraction to 5-hydroxytryptamine and antigen in the mouse trachea
2007, Pulmonary Pharmacology and TherapeuticsCitation Excerpt :It is important to note that no differences in serum ovalbumin-specific IgE levels between the tachykinin NK1 receptor WT and KO mice can be detected [25]. Upon activation, mast cells degranulate, thereby releasing a variety of mediators like histamine and 5-HT, which in their turn induce contraction [4,26]. Indeed, after stimulation with the antigen, the presence of 5-HT in the organ bath was demonstrated.
