Synergistic effect between citalopram and citicoline on anxiolytic effect in non-sensitized and morphine-sensitized mice: An isobologram analysis
2020, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :So, citicoline potentiated the anxiolytic response produced by morphine-sensitization. In the current study, we used citicoline which has been revealed to be a supplemental drug with neuroprotective effects that enhances the level of some neurotransmitters, for example, acetylcholine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, which improve management of various disorders and neurodegenerative diseases (Adibhatla and Hatcher, 2005; Alvarez-Sabin and Roman, 2013; Brown et al., 2007; Rao et al., 2001). Based on some of the studies, the application of citicoline induced antidepressant, anticonvulsant and antianxiety effects (Abdolmaleki et al., 2016; Roohi-Azizi et al., 2018).
Influence of citicoline on citalopram-induced antidepressant activity in depressive-like symptoms in male mice
2018, Physiology and BehaviorCitation Excerpt :Moreover, citicoline is an effective agent in therapy of amphetamine and cocaine dependency and mood disorders [17–19]. The key neuroprotective role of citicoline may be related to neuronal membrane phospholipids synthesis and various neurotransmitter levels such as acetylcholine, dopamine, and norepinephrine [18, 20–22]. It seems, citicoline has antidepressant effect as an adjuvant drug in unipolar and bipolar depression by increasing monoaminergic neurotransmitters [23, 24].
Protecting the retinal neurons from glaucoma: Lowering ocular pressure is not enough
2012, Pharmacological ResearchCitation Excerpt :Indeed, citicoline has been shown to increase, in the brain, the formation of phosphatidylcholine and other phospholipids both in vitro and in vivo studies [165,166]. Moreover, citicoline is also able to abolish PLA2 activation following brain injury [167], hence preventing post-insult PLA2 stimulation may represent an important mechanism of neuroprotection provided by citicoline [168]. The rescue of RGCs from apoptosis may represent, as previously underscored, a critical step to improve neurodegeneration in glaucoma.
