A typical 20 year old human lens has an accommodative amplitude around 10–12 D (Duane, 1925; Glasser and Campbell, 1999; Kasthurirangan et al., 2008), which decreases with age (Fig. 2B). Lens transparency is the direct result of its specialized cellular architecture that minimizes light scattering.
