Comparative DFT study of americium and europium complexation with 2,9-bis(1,2-diazin-3-yl)-1,10-phenanthroline ligand in gas phase
2022, Computational and Theoretical ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Next, oxygen-based diglycolamide ligands are used to separate minor actinides and lanthanides from the rest of the spent fuel in the DIAMEX (DIAMide EXtraction) process [5,6]. The challenge arises in separating the highly radioactive minor actinides from the nonradioactive lanthanides, because of their similarities in chemical properties [7,8]. Lanthanides have higher neutron caption cross sectional areas than the actinides and will therefore hinder the transmutation process that is required to neutralize the radioactivity of the minor actinides [9,10].
Synthesis and structural characterization of a dimethylformamide bound dioxouranium(VI) salen based complex with propylene linkage
2017, Journal of Molecular StructureCitation Excerpt :The coordination chemistry of uranyl ions has received significant attention in recent years due to their potential applications, especially in environmental chemistry of radioactive elements [1–3]. There are several reports showing that the uranyl complexes have been used in storage of nuclear wastes produced from reactor fuel [4–9], which motivated the researchers to design UO22+ chelators for selective removal of uranium [10–12]. Over the years, metal complexes with tetradentate ligands possessing N2O2 donor atoms have received significant attention in chemistry due to their extensive catalytic and bioactive applications [13].
