2020, Informatics in Medicine UnlockedCitation Excerpt :Low values of TAWSS promote atherogenic endothelial phenotype, where high values of TAWSS can be thrombogenic [42]. The OSI is a dimensionless hemodynamic parameter commonly used to identify the atheroprone regions of the artery [37]. RRT is a descriptor used to pinpoint the region of oscillatory and low WSS [38].

2018, Applied Mathematical ModellingCitation Excerpt :Malek et al. [15] associated specific regions of the arterial tree prone to atherosclerosis with low wall shear stress magnitude (< 0.4 Pa) and concluded that the typical value of WSS in blood vessels varies between 1.5 and 2.0 Pa. For both normal and stenosed vessels, analytical, numerical, and experimental studies are recognised to help in the prediction, prevention and better understanding of atherosclerosis disease [12,16–19]. There are several studies based on idealized geometries using stenoses with idealized shapes (e.g. half spheres, ellipsoids, toroids) [17,20–22].
