2017, Environmental Toxicology and PharmacologyThe decreased expression of mitofusin-1 and increased fission-1 together with alterations in mitochondrial morphology in the kidney of rats with chronic fluorosis may involve elevated oxidative stress
2015, Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and BiologyCitation Excerpt :The kidney represents the major route for elimination of fluorine from the body and is thus susceptible to fluorosis. Renal dysfunction and abnormal metabolism, as well as histopathological changes have been observed in experimental animals exposed to excessive fluoride [5–8]. A comparative proteomic study of the kidney of puffer fish exposed to high amount of fluoride revealed 32 proteins whose expression was significantly altered [9].

2011, ToxicologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore it is used for as a component in topically applied agent (Ijaz et al., 2010) and fluoridation of drinking water (Marian et al., 2000). However, fluoride is also known to induce acute or chronic toxicity, such as dental fluorosis (Gessener et al., 1994; DenBesten and Thariani, 1992), skeletal fluorosis (Wang et al., 1994) and renal toxicity (Williger et al., 1995). It has been reported that fluoride disruption of the actin cytoskeleton (Yong et al., 2005), endoplasmic reticulum stress in ameloblast-derived cells (Ramaswamy et al., 2008; Kubota et al., 2005) and necrosis in thymocytes (Matsui et al., 2007).
