2021, American Journal of the Medical Sciences
    Citation Excerpt :

The immunomodulatory effects of IVIG depend on the complex and often overlapping activity of both the antibodies and other biologically active substances within IVIG. As IVIG contains an abundance of unique antigen-specific antibodies, one of its’ key features is the ability to neutralize a diverse gamut of antigens, which may include native substances such as interleukin-1, tumor necrosis factor alpha and interferon gamma, all of which are pro-inflammatory.42-44 IVIG also suppresses antigen-specific T cells from undergoing proliferation and may interfere with antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity.45,46
