Abstract
One type of massive concrete structure is the foundation of high-rise buildings due to the need for larger foundations to provide more stability to the buildings. This paper describes the development of a case study applied to a piled raft foundation of a high-rise building in Fortaleza/CE, in northeastern Brazil. For this purpose, it aimed to develop and apply a casting plan for such structure as a means to avoid pathological manifestations linked to temperature increase as delayed ettringite formation (DEF) and shrinkage cracking. In addition, the paper verifies the reliability of the method for predicting the thermal behavior of the structure with a follow-up of the temperature measurements in the field. The procedure adopted included the execution of the computational thermal analysis, with the casting methodology definition, the follow-up of the application in field with proper instrumentation and field monitoring of the internal temperatures reached by the structure. Results showed the importance of this follow-up and confirmed the reliability of the predictive model used. Moreover, the possible influence of the use of admixtures on the thermal behavior of the concrete structure and the need to implement parameters that correctly characterize the materials and the boundary conditions was highlighted to bring the computational predictions closer to the reality experienced in the field.
