Abstract
The registration directive ‘stress related disorder/burn-out’ of the Netherlands Centre for Occupational Diseases has been updated. Excessive exposure to occupational psychosocial risk factors at work can cause the occupational disease stress related disorder/burn-out. Excessive exposure to the factor associated with ‘effort-reward imbalance’ may be sufficient to cause this occupational disease, especially in men. The factors ‘high psychological job demands’, ‘little job autonomy’, ‘little social support from colleagues and/or managers’, ‘procedural injustice in the organization’, ‘relational injustice in the organization’ and ‘high emotional demands’ may contribute to the development of a stress related disorder.
