Epiphrenic diverticulum of esophagus: a rare case report

Abstract

A rare acquired epiphrenic diverticulum of esophagus was identified in a 60-year-old male patient. He was presented with 8 months history of dysphagia and regurgitation. Barium swallow study and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy confirmed the diagnosis and showed normal mucosa. No suspicion of malignancy was present. Manometry was normal. The diverticulum was surgically excluded by continuous suturing, along with esophagomyotomy. Avoidance of diverticulectomy facilitated early oral feeding and speedy recovery.
