Abstract

Gearboxes are generally speed reducers that transmit the mechanical power from the input driver to the output shaft with a reduced or accelerated rotational speed. In this research, an 8-speed gearbox assembly of a Lathe machine is taken for an investigation. Initially, a static structural analysis is conducted by giving appropriate boundary conditions and materials. From the results obtained, the deformation and stress characteristics of the gearbox assembly are studied. Then the model is redesigned by tweaking the hyperparameters of the gears and the analysis results obtained are compared with the previous results. Also, a modal analysis is conducted to find out the various modes & mode shapes. The resultant values are compared with the nominal values to avoid the resonance and improve the assembly performance.
