New Realizations of the Maximal Satake Compactifications of Riemannian Symmetric Spaces of Noncompact Type

Abstract

We give new realizations of the maximal Satake compactifications of Riemannian symmetric spaces of noncompact type as orbit closures inside Grassmannians and orthogonal groups. Our constructions are partially motivated by Poisson geometry.
