Abstract

Commonly, in efficiency analysis, it is taken for granted that it is desirable to realize a maximum ratio between produced outputs and employed inputs. However, according to the concept of satisficing activities are regarded as satisfactory, if they meet a certain aspiration level. This concept has been integrated into efficiency analysis techniques through so-called satisficing levels. In the paper, opportunities and risks of satisficing levels in efficiency analysis are discussed from the viewpoint of sustainable development.
