There are two sets of arrows, for regions offset by half unit distance in the PC1 direction, thus only half of the arrows are independent. The vector tendencies are centred on the mean position in each region of sub-space. The contours indicate the number of points included in the average in each region of sub-space. The grey line is the phase space trajectory as shown in Fig. 5. The cross is at [PC1, PC2] = [0, 0]
