Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
Up to 89 % of professional orchestra musicians are affected by playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMD). Data concerning the character of the underlying musculoskeletal dysfunctions are scarce.
Study results
The results of published studies show that playing a musical instrument is often associated with postural disorders. Music students demonstrate a twofold higher risk of developing musculoskeletal problems in comparison to non-music students. Clinical investigations further indicated that musicians with PRMD presented with more musculoskeletal dysfunctions than control subjects. Furthermore, PRMD is frequently associated with impairment of postural stabilization systems.
