Optimizing Interdisciplinary Cooperation for Patients with Orofacial Dysfunctions Presentation of an Interdisciplinary Diagnostic Referral Sheet

Abstract

Background: The quality of interdisciplinary cooperation is one of the most important factors in the success and long-term stability of treatment of patients suffering from orofacial dysfunctions. However, speech pathologists have criticized the poor communication and diagnosis at the time of referral and have requested a standardized diagnostic referral sheet with the aim of improving interdisciplinary cooperation.

Diagnostic Referral Sheet: The diagnostic referral sheet presented here is based on the demands of speech pathologists focusing on myofunctional therapy and helps in initial assessment of the individual situation and necessary treatment. It is subject to continuous updating and coordinates the many medical disciplines involved on account of the complex pathology.

Conclusion: The multidisciplinary diagnostic referral sheet, which is independent of treatment methods and compressed into one page, is aimed at contributing to quality assurance and to the improved documentation of orofacial dysfunctions.

Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund: Entscheidend für den Therapieerfolg und die Stabilität des Behandlungsergebnisses ist bei Patienten mit orofazialen Dyskinesien die Qualität der interdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit. Diese wurde jedoch von Logopäden als unzureichen eingestuft. Mangelnde Kommunikation und Diagnostik zum Zeitpunkt der Überweisung wurden kritisiert. Zur Verbesserung der fachübergreifenden Zusammenarbeit wurde daher ein standardisierter Diagnosebogen gefordert.

Standardisierter Diagnosebogen: Der hier vorgestellte, auf die Bedürfnisse von Logopäden mit sprachheiltherapeutischem Schwerpunkt abgestimmte Diagnosebogen dient einer ersten Einschätzung der individuellen Situation und notwendiger Therapiemaßnahmen. Er ist als Laufbogen konzipiert und koordiniert die aufgrund der vielschichtigen Pathogenese eingebundenen verschiedenen Fachdisziplinen.

Schlussfolgerung: Der fachübergreifende methodenunabhängige und auf eine Seite komprimierte Bogen soll einen Beitrag zur Qualitätssicherung und verbesserten Dokumentation orofazialer Dyskinesien leisten.
