Summary
Anal endosonography has contributed to a better knowledge of the anatomy of the periano-rectal cellular and adipous spaces. It allows for staging anal fistula disease by showing the location of the primary opening, the topography of the main fistula pathway and possible secondary pathways, the location of the collection(s). It is not indicated for all fistulae but makes easier the therapeutic management of the complex and/or multi-operated forms, especially in the context of the median disease.
