  1. When marked jaundice (serum total bilirubin level more than 10 mg/dl) persisted without a tendency to improve, or when marked delay was observed in physical development. Progressive deterioration of the results of lavoratory examinations, such as serum choline-esterase, albumin, cholesterol levels; prothrombin time, and normotest may be useful in determing the time of transplantation.

  2. If Kasai’s operation failed to drain the bile at all, the liver transplantation should be done early before the patient fall in liver failure, which usually manifests within 18 to 24 months.
