Summary
Risks due to blood transfusions are of major concern for patients undergoing esthetic surgical procedures. Infiltration of the parenchyma with epinephrine in reduction mammaplasty diminishes the blood loss significantly. By the application of a tourniquet at the base of each breast prior to epinephrine instillation, a better control of infiltration and hemostasis is achieved. Autologous blood is transfused intraoperatively by a postoperative enriched-iron diet.
