Summary
Two patients with diabetic neuropathic cachexia and diabetic amyotrophy are reported. Manifestations are profound weight loss, severe pain in the lower extremities, depression with insomnia, anorexia and impotence. This usually occurs in an older male and may be precipitated when insulin therapy is begun. With control of the diabetes and weight gain the symptoms reverse.
