Summary
A number of straight and branched alkanes were tested with respect to their oxidizability byPseudomonas.
n-Alkanes are easily oxidized, but the branched compounds must possess a sufficiently long unbranched chain in order to be attacked.
With one exception no oxidizable compounds were encountered among those containing more than one methyl substituent or one or more higher alkyl substituents.
